Update: Shah Mansoor Camp-Swabi

Thousands of displaced people staying in Shah Mansur camp2 in Swabi demonstrated day before yesterday in protest. The misery of the destitute homeless has increased manifold after the Red Crescents stopped the provision of food to them recently. Nearly six thousand people of camp2 are facing the worst conditions without electricity and basic necessities of living. ‘roz roz mar nay se tou behtar hai ham akathay beth kar marnay ka asan tareeqa dhoondh lain’ Mohammad Usman, a resident of camp2, uttered out of extreme desperation. He told us that he has been living in these camps for the last 45 days with his wife and six children. He said that they have no money to buy anything neither do they have any source of income. Therefore they are completely dependent on the people who are managing these camps. He told that ‘we cannot understand what to do in a situation when we are given only Ataa and asked to cook for ourselves, what can we do now?’

Sharif Gul, another person living in the camp2 complained about the problems they have been facing regarding electricity, food, water and medical services. He told that some of the IDPs of camp2 have gathered to think of some way of helping themselves out.

A volunteer worker in the camps, Riaz Mohammad told us that it is sad and bizzare but in the same colony almost all facilities are being provided in camp1 which is just across the road. But their brothers and sisters sheltered in camp2 watch them with despair. He further said that the demonstration had ended after sometime it started when the Red Crescent promised the people to fulfill their needs but they are still helpless.

question in such hopeless situation is that when will the aid of the government reach these homeless and foodless people, who have been left with no option but to protest for their needs and beg at the cost of their dignity and self respect? Is anyone listening ?
