Happy New Year

By Shermeen Bano

Learn from yesterday, live today, hope for tomorrow with a plan

The New Year is here…Again. It marks a new beginning. An opening of a yet another chapter in the chronicle of Humanity and each of us individual human beings. Let us begin this year with renewed hope. Hope for a better world. And dare I say, lets plan for it.

We Pakistanis, as a nation are going through tough times. Optimism, in times of desperation can be hard to sustain and nourish. Yet night is darkest before dawn.
Hence, the time is perfect for reflection, rejection and realization. A moment to stop and think. To think of what we intended from the year 2009 and how far we got.

Do we want the same from 2010?

Time is of essence. It requires us to get rid of all those actions and inactions that got us where we are today; in middle of bloodshed, tyranny, and hypocrisy. 2010 is our chance to get it right. We can make a fresh start. All we need is realization of our untapped potential and faith in ourselves.

What we need to understand is that our failures, mistakes and losses are part of yesterday. They are behind us; a reminder of what we do not want to be. This year, for a change how about we learn from our mistakes, instead of repeating them all over again.

So let us begin this journey into a new decade with reinvigorated aspirations, inspirations and expectations for seeing a peaceful and prosperous world. It might seem impossible but all we need is trust in our ability to change, to grow and to love.

You may say that I’m a dreamer…But I Hope I am not the only one. It is time to live the Dream.

Happy New Year
